Paul D Marengo
Paul Douglas Marengo, 91, of Fort Gratiot, died Tuesday, November 6, 2018.
He was born August 1, 1927 in Flint to the late Stanley & Viola Marengo. He married Ileana M. “Voo” Dodea on February 9, 1952 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on August 30, 2001.
Paul was a 1945 graduate of Port Huron High School. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Italy. Upon returning home from the service, he earned an associate’s degree from the Port Huron Junior College and a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University. He owned and operated Marengo Appliance for over 50 years.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Parish St Joseph Church and BPOE #343. He was a previous member of Black River Country Club and Port Huron Golf Club. He was an avid golfer, golfing his last 9 holes on October 5 of this year.
Paul and his wife enjoyed dancing in dinner dance clubs. He was also an active volunteer with Blue Water Community Food Depot, St Vincent de Paul, Blue Water Habitat for Humanity and Blue Water Pax Christi.
He is survived by sons, Jonathan (Jami) Marengo, Mark (LynAn) Marengo and Charles Marengo; a daughter, Paula Marengo; grandchildren, Jaime (Niki) Marengo, Shannon (Joe) Brown, Nicholas (Sarah) Marengo, Benjamin Marengo, Tyler Marengo and Cameron Marengo; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Margaret Riley and Gayle Millne and a special friend, K.C. Doelle
Mr. Marengo will lie in state from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. on Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and Saturday from 10 a.m. until the service time at St. Joseph Church. A rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Friday in the funeral home.
Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 11 a.m. in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Very Reverend Salvatore Palazzolo, K.H.S. will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
