Janet Mae Turk

The world is a much poorer place today due to the passing of Janet Mae Canaan Turk, 75, of Lansing, MI formerly of Port Huron, MI. She died Tuesday, November 23, 2010 in Sparrow-St. Lawrence Hospital following a courageous battle with emphysema, while surrounded by loved ones.
She was born June 29, 1935 in Reed City, MI to the late Herbert L. and Bonita (Hoover) Canaan. She married Lester J. Turk on April 14, 1951 in Angola, IN. She was a very kind and loving person whose primary focus was always her family. Janet was an expert genealogist and was a member of the Colonial Dames, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and the Daughters of the Union. She was also very artistic and enjoyed music, photography, writing and china painting.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Lester of Lansing; brother, Giles Turk of Port Richey, FL; children, Dr./Capt-USN Raymond J. (Yuko Horisawa) Turk of Fleming Island, Fl, Randy C. (Jutta Heuser) Turk of Port Huron, Rev. Jefferey L. (Paulette Neal-Allen) Turk of Thornton, CO and Stacey Paul Turk of Lansing; 13 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by long time friends Robert and Valerie Boucher, Herman Fiedler and Rosemary Turk.
She was preceded in death by her brother Clyde L. Turk, Jr and her sisters Bonnie Lou (Turk) Woolman/Wood, Ruth Clark and life long friend Carole Fiedler.
Funeral services will be 4pm Friday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron, MI. Burial will take place Saturday in Grant Township Cemetery, Big Rapids, MI.
Visiting hours are 2-4 pm Friday in the Funeral Home, Port Huron, MI.
