Fort Gratiot- Dorothy M. Aurand, 98, of Fort Gratiot died January 19, 2011 in Mercy Village.
She was born November 21, 1912 in New Orleans, LA and has lived here for the past 65 years.
She married H. Rex Aurand on June 20, 1946 in New Orleans, LA. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1994.
Dorothy studied commercial art in New Orleans and trained at Tulane University to be an aircraft draftsman during the war. She worked as a draftsman on military aircraft. Dorothy was a member of the Blue Water Art Club and designed Port Huron's first city flag. She was a founding member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.
She is survived by her son, Paul (Jan) Aurand of Whitmore Lake; daughter, Gayle (Dave) Picot of Fort Gratiot; daughter, Kay (Dave) Falk of Port Huron; granddaughters, Katie Aurand of Birmingham, AL, Kristi Aurand of Whitmore Lake, Dr. Angela Picot (Dave) Derrick of Chicago, IL and Sarah (Mike) Shay of Fort Gratiot; grandsons, Andy Picot of Colton, CA, Aaron (Julie) Picot of Lansing and Adam Falk of Canton, MI; great-granddaughter, Alivia Falk of Canton, MI.
She was preceded in death by 8 brothers and sisters from New Orleans.
Mass of Resurrection will be 11 am Saturday in St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbiginew Zomerfeld will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
Visitation will be 10am until service time Saturday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to Studio 1219 of Port Huron.
The family is very grateful to the staff at Mercy Village for the love and care of our mother and most importantly Mercy Terrace.
