Jane L Currier
Jane L. Currier (nee Daly) passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2020. Her husband, James “Jim” was by her side. Jane lived with the uncertainty of Multiple Sclerosis for many years. Dementia gradually took Jane’s mind, but not her spirit, smile or the sparkle in her eyes. Complications from both afflictions ultimately took her life.
Jane was born on November 5, 1953 to the late William and Beverly Daly. She was the granddaughter of Stuart and Alice Daly, Edward Newton and Charles and Sophia Houle.
High school sweethearts, Jane and Jim were married on April 16, 1977 in Port Huron. They were remarried on their tenth anniversary, April 16, 1987 on Nantucket Island, Massachusetts.
Jane graduated from Port Huron Northern High School in 1971. She received her Associates Degree from St. Clair County Community College and attended Michigan State University and the University of Michigan Flint Campus. Employed in the medical and mental health fields, Jane’s genuine kindness and compassion brought the patients comfort and brightened their days.
Jane was a lover of felines which began with Sam, followed by Alex, KoKo, Kitty, Newbie, Little One, Simpson, Oreo and Charlie. Coincidentally, nine feline lives were nurtured by her as their Feline Mom. In addition, Jane rescued and placed numerous felines in loving homes. Her friend, Tina Smith appropriately named her “Jane the Cat Whisperer”.
Jane is survived by Jim, her husband of 43 years, and as Jane would say, “Together for fifty years”. She is also survived by her brother, James Daly; sister-in-law, Jan Currier; aunts, Linda Dane and Penelope Nordin; and life-long friend, Tina Smith.
On behalf of Jane, Jim would like to thank and express his heartfelt gratitude to the Blue Water Hospice Staff and volunteers who cared for Jane; her caregiver angel, Sharon Bender; and Dr. Sami Barmada of the University of Michigan Geriatric Neurology Department.
A Memorial Celebration of Jane’s life will be held when we are able to comfortably gather.
