Robert J. Johnston

June 24th, 1924 to September 21st, 2011
Robert J. Johnston, 87, died Wednesday, September 21, 2011 after a lengthy Illness.



He was born on June 24, 1924 in Port Huron to the late Myrtle and James Johnston.



He married Patricia A. Krafft on July 27, 1944 in Angola, IN.

Robert was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army. He was self employed as a masonry contractor in the Port Huron area for 40 years and completed the front of London's Dairy. After retiring as a contractor, he was employed 17 years at Chrysler Corp. He served 8 years as a Trustee for Fort Gratiot Twp. and was also the Township Building Inspector. He was a member of the Charles Hammond Post #8, American Legion and St. Edwards Church. His most joyous moments were spent with his family.



He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Johnston of Ft. Gratiot; son, Donald J. (Jacqueline) Johnston of Ft. Gratiot; daughter, Robin A. (Rick) Crothers of Kimball; daughter, Jill M. Haggerty of Port Huron; grandsons, Jason and Tim Johnston, James Fogal; granddaughters Heidi Swinson, Ashley Werner and Brooke Haggerty; brothers, William (Sharon) Johnston of Port Huron, Louis (Kay) Johnston of Port Huron; sister, Velma (Homer) Shepherd of Port Huron; several nieces and nephews.



Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Edwards Catholic Church, Lakeport.



Visiting will be 7-9 p.m. Saturday and 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. until the service time Monday at church. Military rites will be under the direction of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Edwards Church.



His family is very grateful to Blue Water Hospice for their kindness, help and support.
