Dorothy A Henry
Dorothy A. Henry, 95, of Port Huron, died Tuesday, December 21, 2020. She was born October 31, 1925 in Detroit to the late August and Dorothy Leenknecht.
She attended Cass Technical High School and the Society of Arts and Crafts at Wayne State University. Further study occurred at the NYC Art Students League. She was later awarded an Associate in Arts degree from St. Clair County Community College. She was a member of the World War II Civil Air Patrol Parachute Squadron.
Dorothy was employed as Advertising Design Artist and Illustrator at numerous agencies in the United States and in London England, including Mary Maxim Store and the Times Herald, locally. She was also a former cartoon illustrator for the “Bill and Sue” comic strip in a London England newspaper. She was a 40-year member of the Blue Water Art Association and the Blue Water Lapidary Society, founding member and past president of the board of trustees for the Port Huron Museum and a member of the Blue Water Hiking Club.
She is survived by her stepchildren, Linda Ruiz, Patrick “Nick” (Karen)Henry; step grandchildren, Christopher Lowry, Renata Ruiz, Liano (Marlene) Ruiz, Claire (Brooke) Cheyney- Henry, Rachel (Billy) Morgan, Jeffrey Henry, Matthew (Janice) Henry; and multiple step great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband H. Patrick Henry; her daughter, Jessie Manning; her son, Robert Manning; and her stepson, Mark Henry.
The family wishes to express gratitude to Dorothy’s neighbors and friends for helping her to continue living in her own home into her 94th year of life.
A family celebration of her life will be planned for a future date, due to the pandemic. Burial will occur at Lakeside Cemetery.
