Gary D Western
Gary Douglas Western, 75, of Port Huron, died Thursday, December 24, 2020 with his wife and daughter by his side.
He was born April 27, 1945 in Albany, California. He married Virginia “Ginger” L. Godbee on August 8, 2002 in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Gary was a 1962 graduate of Cody High School. He joined the Navy July 9, 1962. He served four years active duty and transferred to the Naval Reserve. While in the Navy, he received the National Defense Service Medal. He attended Henry Ford Community College and graduated with an Associates degree in Commerce on June 10, 1977. He worked for DTE Energy as a lineman, safety and management as a maintenance supervisor, retiring August 1, 2006 after 37 years of service.
He enjoyed spending time with family, especially his grandchildren. He loved to travel.
Gary is survived by his wife of 18 years, Ginger; daughters, Erin (Shayla) Blankenship and Kathryn West; son, Mathew (Amanda) Western; step-daughters, Anna (David) Conley and Vickie (Mark) Green; step-son, Scott (Traci) Godbee; 13 grandchildren, Griffin, Sawyer, Ellison, Cooper, Charlie, Chloe, Patrick, Marisa, Steven, Alyssa, Nathan, Addison, Kaden and a great grandchild, Kylea; sisters, Vicky (Sam) Palumbo, Marsha (Tom) Laichalk and Kimberly (Chuck) Haley; brother, Clay Western; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Mildred Western and sister Suzette Crampton.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 1 at 11:00 a.m. in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, 1720 Elk Street, Port Huron, Michigan 48060.
