Charles C Ganim

Charles C. Ganim, 92, of Port Huron Township, died Tuesday, January 26, 2021.

He was born May 13, 1928 in Zahle, Lebanon to the late Chucre and Zoubaida Abou-Ghanem. He married Mary Rose Abou-Taan on April 23, 1969 in Zahle, Lebanon.

Charlie emigrated from Lebanon to Brazil and then to the United States with the help of his aunt, Elizabeth Hibye. Charles served is the U.S. Army during the Korean War and went on to work and manage the Brass Rail Bar, retiring after 58 years. He was especially proud of the Brass Rail Christmas decorations. He enjoyed playing golf, grilling and cooking out, gardening, loved investing in the stock market, and watching sports, especially the Lions and Tigers. Charles made friends everywhere he went.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Rose; daughter, Helen (Dennis) Dickey; son, Sol Ganim; grandson, Daniel (Christina) Ganim; granddaughter, Mary Dickey; nieces and nephews, Tony Abou-Ganim, Dave (Janet) Abou-Ganim, Joseph Saikaly, Samir Saikaly, Maurice Saikaly, Deeb Saikaly, Neda Saikaly and Zena Saikaly; many great nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Lebanon; and cousin, Maroun Abou-Ghanem. He was preceded in death by his sister, Georgette Saikaly; brother, George Abou-Ganim; cousins, Helen (Sol) David and Tony Abou-Ghanem; and aunt, Mary Maklouf.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, January 29, 2021 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A limited number of people will be allowed in at a time. Please wear a mask for the safety and comfort of others.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 30, 2021 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or to Blue Water Hospice.
