Eleanor L. Sweeney, 91, of Kimball, died Wednesday, March 31, 2021.
She was born March 26, 1930 in Columbus, Michigan to the late Edward and Eleanor Fraley. She married Alexander Sweeney on June 10, 1950. Alex died April 5, 2007 after 56 years of marriage.
Eleanor was a loving mother, grandmother and sister. She raised her family with love and faith. She was a member of Holy Trinity Parish for many years and was an active member of the Ladies Altar Society. Eleanor worked for twenty years in the kitchen at Port Huron High School. Many stories are still told about the cinnamon rolls that were made in her kitchen. She was the head cook for many years before retiring at 70 years of age. Our mother lived a life of faith, love and being surrounded by children. There was always room at the dinner table for her children’s friends and she was like a second mom to many.
She is survived by her seven sons, Alexander James, Jr.(Adrienne) of Homer, AK, Dr. Douglas (Cindy) of Troy, Gary (JoAnne) of Lakeport, Dr. Patrick (Eileen) of Grosse Pointe Woods, Dr. Dale (Char) of Fort Gratiot, David (Rhylin) Fort Myers, FL, and Leo (Nora) of Estero, FL ; six daughters, Janet (Michael) Cain of Fort Gratiot, Carol (Paul) Hines of West Bloomfield, Mary Ann (Dr. Jeffery) Easton of Fort Gratiot, Kathleen (Daniel) Moore of Nashville, TN, Colleen (Michael) Pattullo of Petoskey, MI and Paula (Durrand) Ashford of Apopca, FL; 26 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren who she loved so much; her sister, Carol (Bill) Ellery, of Marysville; brothers-in-law, William (Mary Ellen) Sweeney of Port Huron and Joseph Sweeney of St. Clair Shores. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Eleanor Fraley of Columbus, MI; five brothers and eight sisters.
Eleanor is also survived by her loving friend and companion, Keith Morgan. They enjoyed bowling, golfing, having a coffee and burger and watching the boats go by down by the bridge, taking rides around the country side, meeting the family for lunch at Ted’s Coney Island on 24th Street, watching sports together and especially watching the Detroit Tigers, who Eleanor never gave up on! Eleanor’s children appreciate and love Keith for all the joy he brought to their mother’s life for the past eleven years.
