Maroun Abou-Ghanem

February 19th, 1958 to May 8th, 2021

Maroun Abou-Ghanem, 63, of Port Huron, passed away unexpectedly on May 8, 2021.

Born on February 19, 1958 in Zahle, Lebanon, Maroun was the youngest of five children. He immigrated to Port Huron in 1987 and lived with his brother, Tony. He learned to speak English while watching game shows and soap operas.

The Brass Rail was never the same when he began his bartending career working for his cousin, Helen David. Maroun never forgot a face or the drink that went with it. He loved to tease, his jokes were legendary and he worked hard to ensure that the Brass Rail was successful. Tom and Jerrys will certainly not taste the same without Maroun’s hands running the blender!

Maroun was a genuine jack of all trades. His cooking rivaled that of any chef. Leg of lamb and Lebanese dishes were his favorites. He could fix anything and would spend hours figuring out how to “make it work.” His pool game was feared at the local pool hall, he played a mean game of gin rummy and liked to finish his shift with a Johnny Walker Black on the rocks.

Maroun was a loyal friend to countless folks: Theresa, Diane, Sue, Rick, Frank, Cathy, Chris, Doug, Jeffs, Bob, B & B, Nick, Joe and so many, many more. He was faithful, dedicated, dependable and, in spite of his protestations to the contrary, abundantly generous. Maroun’s devoted caregiving of his brother, Tony, during his final days was a loving witness to brotherly love.

Maroun is survived by his brothers, Michael and John, and extended family members both here and in Lebanon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aziz and Odette Abou-Ghanem; sister, Ida; brother, Tony; and numerous other beloved relatives.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

May the angels lead him to paradise; may the martyrs receive him at his coming and lead him to the holy city Jerusalem.
