D. Michael Benedict
David Michael “Mike” Benedict, Attorney at Law, 67, of Port Huron Township, left us on Monday, May 31, 2021 after a short illness.
He was born July 17, 1953 in Port Huron to the late David and Marie Benedict.
Mike graduated from Michigan State University in 1975 and received his law degree from Cooley Law School, Lansing, Michigan. He maintained private practice in Port Huron for his entire career.
Mike practiced law to help others and many, many benefited from his kindness and generosity. Money was never a priority to Mike. Giving and caring for others, especially those less fortunate, was his joy and his passion.
He cherished his parents… they were his best friends. He also loved to chuckle, joke and spar with his friends and colleagues, sometimes over a few beers. His friends regarded him as one of the better people they ever knew. He was a true Spartan, thru and thru. He loved the Michigan outdoors, fishing and perusing through the woods at the dawn to find a deer. His natural good looks and dimples were an added bonus to his authentic charm. Gardening and pride in his home gave him great joy. Mike was the oldest grandson of his immigrant Italian grandfather, Aldo Cocco, who instilled upon him his great work ethic and integrity. He believed in America and our constitution and was a devout Catholic.
Although we will miss him and may feel that Mike has left us way too early, he lived “his full life”, exactly as he chose and by his standards. He wouldn’t have had it any other way.
Mike is survived by his sister, Cindy Marie Benedict; many cousins; and an abundance of great friends. He will be greatly missed and joyfully remembered.
