Salvador "Peanuts" Guizar

August 15th, 1922 to August 5th, 2021

Salvador Guizar, of Port Huron, passed peacefully into the Lord’s Hands surrounded by friends and family August 5, 2021.

Born August 15, 1922 in Michoacán, Mexico, Sal got his nickname “Peanuts” when he was 4 years old. His mother would give him a penny and they would go to the mom and pop shop in Port Huron to buy a penny’s worth of peanuts. Over time they would say, here comes little “Peanuts”.

During World War ll, he served in the 158th Field Artillery Battalion. For his service in Sicily, Rome, Naples, France, Rhineland, and the European theaters, he was awarded 6 Bronze Stars, Bronze Arrowhead, and numerous other decorations and citations.

He married his loving wife, Carmen Martinez, in 1949.

He was a partner with his brother, Tony, in Port Pontiac. He established Guizar Auto Co. in 1954 in Port Huron, MI and after 67 successful years, he retired at the age of 87. He was a very generous man and always helped others in the community to achieve their dreams of owning a vehicle.

Salvador was an avid softball player during his formative years and an avid handball player during most of his life. He loved animals, especially his Labrador Lucy, and was rarely seen without her.

He was devoted to his wife Carmen. Their love for each other spanned 72 years.

He is survived by his wife Carmen; son, Alan James Guizar; nieces and nephews, including Michael Guizar, Honorable Michael Martinez, Michelle Boyd, Carmen Gackstetter, Danielle Martinez, Bonnie Tomlo, Theresa Martinez, Rebecca Guizar and over 200 grand nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his daughter, Marta Lynne; and brothers, Tony, Frank, Jesse and Ray Guizar.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Monday, August 16th, 2021 at Karrer Simpson Funeral Home in Port Huron. A Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

On August 17th at noon a Tridentine Mass will be held at St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church in Lakeport, MI, with visitation 30 minutes prior to Mass. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.

The family would like to thank Sanborn Gratiot Memorial Home for the loving care they provided, especially Bill, Kelly, all the staff, and the dedicated nurses and doctors at McLaren Port Huron and Grace Hospice.
