John M Hammerly
John “Bud” Hammerly, age 86, of Lexington, Michigan, passed away on November 20, 2021 from complications of Parkinson’s disease.
He was born July 3, 1935 in Detroit, Michigan to George and Irene (Mundt) Hammerly. In 1959, he married Nancy Adams, and they remained married until her death in 1988. John married Monica Cain in 1993.
John graduated from the University of Detroit and the Detroit College of Law. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps. John was an attorney at Ford Motor Company and retired as an Administrative Law Judge in 1999.
He was an avid Great Lakes sailor and traveler. His favorite destinations were Bayfield, Ontario and Isla Mujeres, Mexico. He never met a dog he didn’t like. He loved all types of music, especially live jazz and bluegrass. He was a lifelong Tigers’ fan.
John is survived by his wife, Monica; his sister; Elizabeth (Robert) Ewing; his children and grandchildren, Michael Hammerly and Christina Morgan -Bradley and Lia Marie Hammerly, Paul and Jill Hammerly, Allison Hammerly and Ben Abreu, and Matthew Hammerly, Laura and Andrew Uryga, Jaclyn and Eric Uryga; his step-children, Margot (Cain) and Ryan Parraghi, Ryan, Dylan, Maya, and Lauryl Parraghi, Dominic and Brittany Cain, Levi and Silas Cain and Nolan Cain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Irene Hammerly, his wife, Nancy, and his sister, Ann Clarke.
Mr. Hammerly will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Water Hospice.
