Obituary

Margaret Ann Rutherford, 87, of Fort Myers, Florida, formerly of Fort Gratiot, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2021.

Margaret was born February 18, 1934 in Burtchville Township, Michigan to the late Edna and Harley Matthews.

Margaret was a resident of Fort Myers, Florida for the past 40 years where she was a parishioner at St. Francis Xavier. Margaret had a long career with J.C. Penney and when she eventually retired, continued working part-time at the local flea market where she made many friends. Margaret loved annual visits with her grandchildren, siblings and their families. She also enjoyed knitting and needlework.

Margaret is survived by her children, Bob W. (Kim) Rutherford and Terry L. Rutherford; four of her siblings, Ed (Noreen) Matthews, Gerald (Mary) Matthews, Howard (Doris) Matthews, and Nancy Lindsay; nine grandchildren, Nicole Rutherford (Mike Harder), Shantel (Sean) McCue, Justin Rutherford, Stephen Rutherford, Dan Rutherford, David Rutherford (Krystal Aman), Darrell (Missy) Rutherford, Stefanie Rutherford (John Wojnarski) and Faith Rutherford; and seven great grandchildren along with another on the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack L. Rutherford; two of her sons, Jack L. Rutherford and David Rutherford; her sister, Mary Lou Studaker; and brother-in-law, Tom Lindsay.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 12, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Lee Acervo of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be with her husband and son at Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
