Grace Swartz

Grace Swartz, 96, of Macomb, formerly of Lexington, died Tuesday, April 19, 2022.

She was born May 9, 1925, in Hamtramck to the late Matthew and Julia Kowalski. She married the love of her life, Richard Swartz, on April 26, 1947 in Queen of Apostles Church, Hamtramck. He preceded her in death after 74 years of marriage on September 14, 2021.

Mrs. Swartz was a strong, endearing mother who raised five children. She loved her grandchildren with a generous and caring heart. Her friends and family meant everything to her. As a cottage owner, she welcomed and enjoyed their impromptu visits where many memories were made. Grace always had a home cooked meal prepared and her homemade apple pie was a family favorite.

Grace enjoyed music and dancing. She was an avid reader and card player who rarely let anyone win at Skip-Bo. Shopping was another favorite of Grace’s especially at Hudson’s back in the day. She had a strong Catholic faith, and said the rosary daily.

Grace is survived by a son, Mark (Donna) Swartz; four daughters, Susan Grzybowski, Barbara Swartz, Sheila (Joseph) Fortuna, and Julie (Mark) Kusey; grandchildren, Kenneth (Marissa) Swartz, James (Heather) Swartz, Paul Grzybowski, Jeffrey (Melissa) Grzybowski, Kristen Grzybowski, Matthew (Jenny) Kurek, Emily Kurek, and Elizabeth Kusey; great grandchildren, Sara, Olivia, Joshua, Skylar, Kyra, Sydnee, TJ (Jennifer), Dylan, Breanna, Brayden, Ashlyn, Carl, Cameron, and Kennedy; and a twin sister, Agnes Taylor. She was preceded in death by siblings, Edna, Stella, Edwin, Leonard, Emily and Norbert.

Visitation will be held from 2-6 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home concluding with a family sharing time at 5:30 p.m.

Mrs. Swartz will lie in state from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 25, 2022 at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Donald J. Eppenbrock will officiate.
