Jeannine Lohr

Jeannine Marie Lohr, 64, of Port Huron died Saturday, August 20, 2022.

She was born November 24, 1957 in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of Dr. Robert W. and Eileen Lohr.

Jeannine attended St. Joseph Catholic School and Port Huron High School where she was on the Thunderbirds Dance and Drill Team that performed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich, West Germany. She worked several years for the Padre Pio Institute in Ottawa, Canada. She graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in education.

Jeannine was a classroom teacher in St. Louis, Missouri, Post Falls, Idaho, St. Clair and Grosse Pointe.

While teaching in Grosse Pointe, Jeannine obtained her MAT in Language Arts and a BR endorsement in Reading. She became a Reading Specialist for Grosse Pointe Public Schools. She also taught Reading and English Composition at various Baker Colleges.

Jeannine was a wonderful teacher and enjoyed sharing her great love of reading with her students. She loved teaching and always spoke fondly of her students and colleagues. She loved opera and was known to play the Triumphal March from Aida to her 4th and 5th grade Kerby Elementary students after they completed lengthy MEAP testing.

She was an avid globetrotter and traveled all over the U.S., Canada and Europe.

In 2009 Jeannine had a brain injury that left her unable to read, speak or write. After a year and a half in a nursing facility, her sister, Suellen brought her home to live with her where Jeannine took up painting, continued traveling and enjoyed movies of all genres.

Jeannine is survived by her beloved mother, Eileen Lohr; siblings, Lela (Mitchell) Wyzgowski, Constance (Jeffry) Michaels, Robert (Deborah) Lohr II, Dr. Douglas Lohr and Suellen Lohr; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her beloved father, Dr. Robert W. Lohr; and her brother, Dr. Richard Lohr.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 25, 2022 in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.
