Richard Lee Schwedler, 72, of Fort Gratiot, died Saturday, October 8, 2022.

He was born February 16, 1950 in Battle Creek. He married Jean Marie Gram on September 19, 1975 in First Baptist Church, Port Huron.

Richard was a 1968 graduate of Port Huron Northern High School. He served in the U.S. Navy from May 1969 to May 1973 on the USS Jason. He did three tours in Vietnam and met up with his brother Patrick in 1971 while they were both serving there. After his service, he was employed with Wirtz Manufacturing for 30 years, then worked in Virginia for 10 years. He enjoyed bowling, hunting, the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. He loved cars, especially corvettes and was a member of the Blue Water Corvette Club. Richard also coached girls’ softball. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jean Marie; children, Barbara (Michael) Schwedler-Lutes and Julie Conley; grandchildren, Jenna Conley and Michael Conley II; brother, Carl J. (Marcia) Schwedler Jr.; aunt, Dorothy Ludlam; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Catherine Schwedler; and brothers, Patrick Schwedler, David Swanson and Eric Swanson.

A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Friday, October 14, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Dennis Holland will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Navy and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
