Richard Ainsworth

Richard Elret Ainsworth, 85, of Fort Gratiot, died Thursday, November 3, 2022.

He was born January 18, 1937 in Port Huron. He married Saundra L. Sheffer on November 29, 1958 in St. Mary Catholic Church.

Richard served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a Master Electrician and retired from Detroit Edison. He then started Ainsworth and Sons Electric. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus Council 11756. He enjoyed boating, camping and snowmobiling. He loved his family and mentored many young people entering the electrical field. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Sandy; four children, Rich (Cindy), Tim (Mary Jo), Suzanne (Chris) and Steve (Kristen); ten grandchildren, Rich, Michael, Kurt (Amber), Tabatha, Nathan, Alex, Amanda (Ryan), Crystal, Taylor and Brennan; four great grandchildren, Myles, Jaxon, Luca and Aria; eight siblings, Patty, Bob (Tena), Bev (Jim), Bill (Dianne), Ralph (Lois), Winnie (Dave), Emily (Butch) and Norb (Brett); and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Elret Ainsworth and his mother, Virginia Johnson.

Visitation will be from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, November 6, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11a.m. Monday, November 7, 2022 in St. Mary Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
