Donald Elwyn Chidester, 84, of Clyde Township, died Friday, November 25, 2022.
He was born January 29, 1938 in Port Huron to the late Frederick and Isabella Chidester. He married Georgene Cook on December 5, 1958 in Port Huron. She died February 18, 2006. He married Beverly Bennett on June 14, 2008 in Port Huron. She died January 30, 2020.
Donald served in the U.S. Army. He was a general contractor building homes in the area. He later owned Crawford Door Co. and also developed many commercial properties under the name of Sawmill Properties LLC in the Wadhams area. He enjoyed traveling the U.S. in his motorhome with friends and family. He had a lifelong passion for cars.
He is survived by three children, Joan (Tim) Stoltz, David (Amy) Chidester and Karen (Tim) Lay; eight grandchildren, Brett Stoltz, Alyssa Stoltz, Andrei Stoltz, Doug Chidester, Allison Chidester, Brandon Lay, Kaitlyn Lay and Devon Lay; many nieces and nephews; two step-children, Connie (Mike) Bratcher and Craig Ellis; and four step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Victoria Stoltz.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, December 8, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Charles Martin and Minister Scott Pike will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
Burial will be in Kinney Cemetery, Clyde Township.
