Obituary

Steven Prax, 87, of Port Huron, died in his home on Monday, January 16, 2023.

Born Stefan, on June 6, 1935 in Leitomischel, Czechoslovakia, to the late August Haas and Emma Prax, he began his life in poverty. In 1951, he immigrated from Wannsee-Berlin, Germany. On a double date with his best friend, Bill Ruff, Steven met the love of his life, Jeannette Yaklin. The two were married on July 1, 1961 in St. Augustine Catholic Church in Richmond, Michigan.

Because of his tremendous appreciation of the US military in handling his post war transitions, Steven chose to serve in the United States Army. Afterward, he worked as a machine maintenance repairman for several local companies. Steven retired from Advanced Accessories in Port Huron.

A hard worker, loyal friend, devoted husband, father , and grandfather, Steven is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeannette; children, Steven E. (Wendy) Prax, Harvey Prax, Paul (Sheila) Prax, Anna (Stephen) Koglin, and Veronica (Mike) Booth; grandchildren, Amanda (Tom) Taylor, Beth (Keith) Corner, Patrick Crockett, Stephen Prax (Amy Hawkins, fiancé), Zachery Prax, Annemarie (Evan) Prax-Cornelissen, Paul (Andrea) Prax II, Jennifer (Ryan) Rostoni, Meagan (Scott) Stokan, Emma Prax (Alex Wahr, fiancé), Joshua (Emily) Koglin, Johnathon Koglin, Michael Booth, and Breanna Booth; and great-grandchildren Thomas Taylor, Cooper Taylor, Chase Horneber, Alexis Crocket, Sebastian Stokan, Caramia Rostoni, and Miller Cornelissen.

Visitation will be 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m.

Steven Prax will lie in state from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 20, 2023, in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Patrick Crockett, Stephen Prax, Zachery Prax, Paul Prax II, Joshua Koglin, Johnathon Koglin, and Michael Booth.

Military Honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron.
