Suzanne M Sweeney

January 2nd, 1954 to April 30th, 2023

Suzanne Marie Sweeney, 69, of Kimball Township, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2023.

She was born January 2, 1954 in Detroit to the late Robert and Margaret Sawicki. She moved to St. Clair Shores as a child with her family, where she graduated from Lake Shore High School. She married the love of her life and best friend, Mike, at Church of St. Gertrude in July of 1976.

A kind, witty and endearingly stubborn woman, she freely shared her creative talents and the gifts of love, support, quality time and comfort with everyone, while asking little in return (except the occasional concession that her way was the right way... which, generally, it was.)

Sue had an innate love and talent for music, and her early pastimes included outdoor adventures, pets of all kinds, softball/baseball, home wine-making, and inventing mild but memorable mischief. As an adult, she embraced avid gardening, decadent cooking and baking, extravagant holiday decorating, creating home-sewn Halloween costumes, hosting giant summer birthday parties, and executing meticulous plans for camping vacations and trips for apple-picking or the perfect Christmas tree. She enjoyed her coffee, listening to the greats like Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison, light-hearted laughter, long drives for ice cream, hunting for deep discounts, playing beautiful organ music, watching favorite movies, competing in family death-match card tournaments, quiet time reading and bird watching. She spent many hours expressing her creativity while finding/making/giving the perfect gifts, painting for craft shows and volunteering her time to the Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts and endless school functions, and she was known for her contributions to the St. Stephen Decorations Committee. Her first priority was always raising her two children to be fiercely independent contributors to society who absorbed her ongoing lessons of compassion, humor and the importance of doing your best.

She did not suffer fools gladly, or accept mistreatment of people or animals. Her Facebook account was peppered with notices to help lost pets find their way home. Despite her best efforts to set us straight, her family will also be a little lost without her sunshine, her wisdom, and her constant, steady presence in our lives.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Mike; their daughter, Tracy (Michael); her sisters, Laurie (Gordie) and Sandy (Vic) and their families; and her spoiled fur-grandchild, Bowie. She was preceded in death by her son, Jason; and her brother, Greg.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 17, 2023 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Kenockee Township.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Michigan Humane Society.
