Obituary

Shirley Lucille Platzer, 82, of Port Huron died Monday, September 4, 2023. She was born March 10, 1941 in Port Huron to the late Sherman and Gladys Stone. She married Joseph William Platzer and they were married for 47 years until his death on June 1, 2009.

Shirley worked as a waitress at Port Huron Golf Club and the Dorsey House and also at Super K-Mart for many years. She enjoyed bowling and golfing and especially loved her Monday morning women’s golf league at Leaning Tree. Shirley was a wonderful cook and a talented seamstress, known as the “apron lady” by many. More than anything, she enjoyed being with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley loved being “grandma” and could often be found supporting her grandchildren at their activities.

She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Steve) Markle, Joseph (Nanette) Platzer and David (Carrie) Platzer; four grandchildren, Jacob, Nicholas & Alexandra Platzer and Natasha (Ze) White; two great-grandchildren, Trayvon & Kyra; a sister, Janet Fair; brother-in-law, John Platzer; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Shirley was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Sheryl Lynn Madej in 1984; her siblings, Eileen (Gil) Davis, Dolores (Gene) Ludington and Barb Wilke; and an infant brother, Kenny.

Visitation will be from 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Inurnment will be in the Mt. Hope Cemetery Columbarium, Port Huron.

Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the Community Foundation of St. Clair County for the “Port Huron Police Department Fund”.
