Gary Ray Peter, 75, of Port Huron, passed away Wednesday, October 4, 2023.

He was born December 22, 1947 in Port Huron to the late Ray and Elizabeth Peter. He married Margaret “Juanita” Wells on October 20, 1967 in St. Joseph Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on November 13, 2020.

Gary worked as a conductor, retiring from the Canadian National Railway. He enjoyed bowling, traveling and going to the casino. He was a member of Blue Water Aerie #3702 Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Charles Hammond Post #8 and the Moose Lodge #158. Gary served in the National Guard.

He is survived by his daughters, Margaret (Dwayne) Rich, Geraldine (Richard) Rhody and Jacqueline (Curtis) Karl; grandchildren, Mehgan (Saulo) Hiller, Eric (Kelsey) Hiller, Richard Rhody, Cara (Robby) Schwartz, Peter (Hanna) Karl, Kathleen Karl, Jack Karl, Dwayne (Jessica) Rich Jr. and Cortney (Dustin) Hildebrand; great grandchildren, Savannah Rodriguez, Hudson Karl, Kyson, Derek and Axle Rich, and Ethan, Nate and Brooklynn Hildebrand; sisters, Jane (Tom) Ginn and Ellen Hoover; and in-laws, Bill (Gail) Wells, Kate (Neil) Settle, Rob Wells and Marilyn (Ray) Hiller. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara; son-in-law, Rick Hiller; sister, Marcia Peter; and brothers-in-law, Chris Wells and Seth Hoover.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
