She was born February 18, 1938 in Port Huron, Michigan. She was the second child and first daughter of John and Geneva Sharpe. Mary was raised in the small village of Emmett, Michigan.

Mary loved her family and her Irish heritage. She was a proud, flag waving American, and a life member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She volunteered for years at the Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church rummage sale. She was a hard worker, determined to make a better life for herself and her children. Mary went back to school as a 38-year-old mother, and received her degree in nursing from St. Clair County Community College. She worked at Mt. Clemens General Hospital for 18 years before opening a home health care business, Bay Nursing in Romeo, along with several other nurses. She retired in 2012 and spent her free time traveling and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards, crocheting, ceramics, playing Banana Gram with her mom, bingo, country music, photography, vegetable gardening and golfing with her siblings.

She leaves behind her six children, Linda Pruitt, Barb Pruitt (Char Carberry), Norman Pruitt Jr., Vicki Williams-Loyd (David Loyd), Jimmy Williams (Vicki), Shane Shafran (Shannon); 15 grandchildren, Derek Pruitt (Mortishia), Ryan Pruitt (Sheri), Tiffany Melvin (Dylan), Madison Loyd, Todd Loyd (Jessica), Erik Loyd (Darci), James Williams (Autumn), Kira Malloy (Justin), Jordan Woods (Jake), Jenna Williams, Keegan Williams, Johnathan Shafran (Aja), Nicholas Shafran, Kaitlyn Shafran, Alexis Cribbs; 20 great grandchildren; 11 siblings; special niece, Bernie Newby (Randy); and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Geneva Sharpe; her grandson, Ryan Pruitt; and her brothers, Thomas, Hugh, Luke, Jim and John.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, December 11, 2023 and Tuesday, December 12, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 13, 2023 in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. Father Thomas Kuehnemund will officiate.

Burial will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be five of her grandsons and one great grandson.

The family prefers memorial contributions be made to the V.F.W. Gleason Butler Sharpe Post #5585 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to honor Mary’s memory. Both organizations were two of her favorites.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Lakeshore Woods for always being willing to go above and beyond for their mother. They also wish to commend the AccentCare Hospice nurses and social worker for their caring and compassion during this emotional time. It was greatly appreciated.
