Joseph M. Nofs

Joseph Martin Nofs, 67, of Burtchville Township, died Monday, December 25, 2023.

He was born July 3, 1956 in Machias, Maine to Mary and Joseph W. Nofs.

Joseph had a passion for education. He started his teaching and coaching career in Yale and went on to teach in the Detroit area for many years. He also spent some time as an instructor at St. Clair County Community College. He was an active member of his community and also a member of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church where he belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council #8274. Joseph especially enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life.

He is survived by two sons, Jeremy (Kristy) and Jeffrey (Amanda) Nofs; four grandchildren, Drew, Kailey, Claire and Ryan; parents, Mary and CWO Joseph W. Nofs USCG, Retired; two brothers, David (Susan) and Kenneth (Pauline) Nofs; four nieces, Sara, Amie, Jenelle and Kathryn; and nephew, Benjamin.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Thursday, December 28, 2023 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, December 29, 2023 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery, Port Huron.
