Douglas J. Smith, D.C., 74, of Port Huron, died Sunday, January 14, 2024.

He was born January 26, 1949 in Port Huron to the late Joseph and Viola Smith. He married Carol Pratley on June 16, 1973 in St. Philip Roman Catholic Church, Battle Creek.

Dr. Smith graduated from Port Huron Catholic High School in 1967 and attended St. Clair County Community College and the National College of Chiropractic, graduating in 1973. He co-owned Smith Chiropractic Clinic of the Blue Water Area, retiring June 29, 2012.

He was a member of Port Huron Host Lions Club for 28 years, the Michigan Association of Chiropractic for 39 years, and the American Chiropractic Association for 28 years.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; a son, Jody (Melissa) Smith; a daughter, Stacey Smith; two granddaughters, Helena and Olivia Smith; brother, Paul (Susan) Smith; nephew, Robert (Brittany) Smith; niece, Caroline (Scott) Nichols; brothers-in-law, Harry (Sharon) Pratley and Donald Pierce; several grandnieces and grandnephews; and special friends, David and Linda Tokarski, Robert and Carol Gunn and Tomas and JoJean Riley.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Brandan M. Smith; and a special sister-in-law, Ellen I. Pierce.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m.

Visitation will be held at 10:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 in St. Mary Catholic Church. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
