Raymond Tommy “Tom” Appling, 81, formerly of Marysville, Michigan, passed away on Thursday, December 14, 2023 in Vero Beach, Florida, after a lengthy illness.
He was born on September 30, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late Raymond and Ida Appling. He married Beverly Baumer-Pettengill on August 13, 1991 in Lake Tahoe, Nevada.
Tom worked for Chrysler Corporation, retiring in 1999 as a supervisor after 35 years of service. After retirement, Tom and Beverly moved to Florida. He enjoyed golfing, bowling, boating and in his younger years, collecting Lionel train sets. He was a past member of the Port Huron Elks Lodge #343.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Beverly; children, Denise Kollman of Destin, FL, Wayne Appling of Thailand, Wendy (Chip) Patterson of Tampa, FL, Michael Appling of Virginia, Jamie (Deanna) Olack of St. Clair, MI and Carrie (Dan) Thick of Clyde, MI; grandchildren, Ashley, Rachael, Ryan and Nichole Kollman, Royce Appling, Spencer, Sidney and Casey Patterson, Abby and Michael Appling, Matthew and Elizabeth Olack, Kierstyn (Steven) Darhower, Lexie Simpson (Ben Kenny) and Ethan Simpson; ten great grandchildren; former son-in-law, Thomas Simpson Jr.; former daughter-in-law, Alicia Holler-Appling; and his faithful canine companion, Molly. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Suzin Olack; and siblings, David Appling and Karen (Wayne) Wilkes.
A memorial service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, June 1, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Shaun Laurain will officiate.
