Jerry was born in Marine City, Michigan on October 28, 1938, the son of James R. Ticknor and Anne (Loria) Ticknor.

Jerry met the love of his life, Nancy (Langs) Ticknor in Port Huron when they were both students at Port Huron Junior College. They received bachelor’s and master's degrees from Eastern Michigan University. They were married at St. Edwards on the Lake in 1958 and celebrated fifty-two years of marriage before Nancy passed away on May 17, 2010.

Jerry is survived by two daughters, Terri Ticknor Gilbert (Richard) and Rebecca (Ticknor) Laupichler (Paul), and four grandchildren, Jason Ticknor Gilbert (Ace Sickles), Elizabeth Ticknor Gilbert (Ryan Ferguson), Benjamin Laupichler and Ethan Laupichler. He also leaves behind two brothers-in-law, Jay Smith and Dwynn DeLor, and ten nieces and nephews. Preceding him in passing was his sister, Lori (Ticknor) Delor.

Jerry had a passion for teaching and devoted over 35 years of his life to shaping the futures of countless middle school students in Port Huron. His unwavering commitment to his profession was matched only by his genuine care and concern for those under his guidance. Jerry instilled not only academic knowledge into the minds of his students but also essential life lessons, something he also extended to his children, colleagues, and all whom he encountered. Beyond his professional achievements, Jerry was a devoted father, husband, and friend. Known for his mentorship, advocacy, and compassion, he left an enduring impression on everyone he met. Whether lending a helping hand to strangers or sharing stories and helpful hints, Jerry's affable demeanor touched hearts far and wide.
