Nancy H Reid

Nancy Helen Reid, 94, of Grosse Pointe Woods, MI, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024.

She was born on November 26, 1929 in Detroit, the 7th of 8 children, to the late Charles and Rose Minnie (nee Goike). She married Frank Reid Jr. on July 15, 1961. He preceded her in death on May 2, 2016.

Nancy graduated with honors from St. Catherine of Siena High School in Detroit in May 1948.

Prior to the birth of her children, she worked at G.M. where she met the love of her life, Frank. After her boys were older, she worked for the Free Press (continuing her son’s paper routes). She also worked part-time for Ameritech Publishing.

Nancy enjoyed time with her children and grandchildren. She was a “car-pool” mom and drove her kids to ball games and practices. She would keep the grandkids at her house in the summer for swim lessons and trips to the city pool.

Nancy was a lifelong Catholic and was devoted to the cause of the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. She was also an avid reader.

She is survived by two sons, Frank (Patricia) Reid and Brian Reid; five grandchildren, Nathan (Lyndsey) Reid, Brandon (Valene) Helmrich, Stephanie (Kyle) Rebenock, Jennifer Reid and Carter Reid; and six great grandsons, Landon, Gavin, Benjamin, Owen, Collin and Theodore. She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 20, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home, Port Huron. Deacon Alan Pionk will officiate.

Inurnment will be at Great Lakes National Cemetery at a later date.

The family wishes that memorial contributions be made to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Nancy’s name.
