Paul D Kane

September 17th, 1945 to May 5th, 2024

Paul Donald Kane, 78, of Burtchville Township, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, May 5, 2024.

He was born September 17, 1945 in Detroit to the late James and Anne Kane.

Paul retired as a quality control engineer with the Ford Tractor Company. After retiring from Ford, he owned and operated the Columbus Grain Elevator for 30 years. He was a faithful member of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church, where he served as an usher and Eucharistic Minister.

Paul was an introvert but also quick with a joke. He loved his family and church community, and you could always count on him to lend a helping hand. He helped elderly neighbors with weekly chores and delivered Communion to bed-ridden Catholics throughout St. Clair County.

Paul considered himself a lifelong student. He enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked and encouraged his sons to do the same. He loved reading, art, early rock & roll, and community theater. He also had a library of over three thousand movies that spanned every era and genre, especially favoring westerns and romantic comedies.

Paul especially loved quiet moments. Whenever possible, he would take back roads through corn fields even though it added time to his trip. At home, you could often find him sipping coffee while watching deer in the back yard or a thunderstorm rolling in. He believed that every day was a gift and that everyday moments were miracles. When you were with him, it was easy to see beauty everywhere you looked.

He is survived by his children, Douglas A. (Barbara) Kane, Jeffrey M. (Christina) Kane, and Joseph J. (Theo Hall) Kane; grandchildren Joshua, Cadeja, LaQuasha, Nathan, Kaitlyn, and Kira; great grandchildren, Romel Jr., Brayden, and Caiyden; siblings, Liana, Kathy, Steve, Harry, Jackie, Ken, Betsy, and John; and many nieces, nephews and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his son, Scott Kane; step-mother, Elizabeth Bush Kane; and siblings, Jim, Bill, Al, Dave, Dick, Pat, Mike, JoAnn, Charlie, Tony, and Mary.
