Frederick J "Fred" Cartwright
Frederick Joseph “Fred” Cartwright, 76, of Fort Gratiot, died Sunday, July 21, 2024.
He was born November 7, 1947 in St. Clair to the late Theodore R. “Ted” and Kathryn L. “Billie” Cartwright.
Fred graduated from St. Clair High School in 1965 and attended Ferris State University before graduating with a degree in business from Northwood University. While at Northwood, he met Vicki Sue Jackson, and they were married on December 29, 1972 at Nardin Park United Methodist Church in Farmington Hills.
Fred began working at the family business, Riverside Tank and Manufacturing Corporation in high school. Shortly after college he took over as CEO when his father passed away, a position he held for the next 52 years.
Fred was a natural born athlete and his love of sports spanned his entire life. He bowled in several leagues, enjoyed golfing, and was a longtime member of the Port Huron Golf Club. He played softball and was part of the Zebra Bar team that was inducted into the Port Huron Sports Hall of Fame. Fred was an avid skier and served on the Nubs Nob Ski Patrol for over 15 years. He held a PADI scuba certification and enjoyed hunting and boating. In the late 1990s, Fred decided to chase a new goal and obtained his recreational pilot’s license.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Vicki; son, Brian (Erica) Cartwright; sister, Kathy Schoeneweg; nieces, Vicki and Lori; and nephew, Mark.
A memorial visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.
