George Beebe

George Beebe, 89, died Monday, July 22, 2024.

He was born on March 31, 1935 in Rochester, Pennsylvania, to the late Martin and Mary Beebe. George married his high school sweetheart, Jan Milliken on April 12, 1954 in Amarillo, Texas. Jan preceded him in death in 2013.

George enlisted in the U.S. Air Force for four years, teaching jet mechanics in Amarillo, and remained in the reserve for an additional four years. He lived his remaining life in Port Huron and was employed as a carpenter and construction supervisor until his retirement in 1994. A lifelong member of the Port Huron Yacht Club and serving as a Commodore, George loved all things relating to sailing. He raced sailboats for most of his life and had lifelong friendships which centered around sailing and the PHYC. In his last years, George, spent summers with friends and family searching for a U.S. Air Force F-106A jet, which went down in Lake Huron, but was never recovered.

George is survived by his son, James (Rebecca) Beebe of Grand Haven; daughters, Barbra (Dave) Freimann, Nicole Schmidt (Louis), and Katy Beebe (Tom) of Port Huron; his grandchildren, Thomas (Kristin), Aaron (Arielle) and Daniel Beebe; great grandchildren, Alex, Quinn, Connor, Lucas, Briar and Sawyer; many nieces and nephews, gave him special joy; as well as the support of many, many close friends. George will be remembered for his keen wit and his ability to tell tales of the days of old.

A memorial service will be held at a later date in Port Huron.
