Obituary

George William Jackson, 92, of Port Huron Township, died Thursday, September 19, 2024.

He was born August 16, 1932 in Kimball Township to the late William “Earl” and Louise B. Jackson. He married Frances M. Vario on June 30, 1956 in St. Stephen Catholic Church.

George was a graduate of Marysville High School and then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed with the U.S. Postal Service for many years, retiring as Superintendent. He was a long-time member of Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Msgr. EJ McCormick Council 521 and the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul.

George was an active outdoorsman and enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and gardening. He was also an avid supporter of all the Detroit sports teams. He especially loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting and dance events.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Frances; son, William (Shirley) Jackson; two grandchildren, Rebecca (Lee) Stark and Tyler (Erin) Jackson; two great grandchildren, Kylee and Mackenzie Stark; brother, Richard Jackson; two sisters, Suzanne Dunn and Joann Siemen; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Medvezky and Carol Vario; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Leonard Jackson.

Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 23, 2024 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Scripture Service will be held at 7:00 p.m.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2024 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Army and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
