James E "Jim" McGill
James Edward “Jim” McGill, 84, of Port Huron, passed away on Saturday, February 22, 2025.
He was born December 26, 1940 in Port Huron to the late Edward and Edith (Meinhardt) McGill.
Jim attended St. Stephen High School and graduated from St. Joseph College on a football scholarship. In 1963, he married his sweetheart, Kathy Murphy.
His first job in sales was with Mueller Brass and was then transferred to Dallas, Texas for five years, and finally moving again to Minneapolis, Minnesota for an additional five years. He then went to work for Huron Tool and Manufacturing in Lexington where he worked until his retirement.
Jim and Kathy built a house in Port Huron on the canal where they parked the source of their weekend fun, a boat called “Happy Days”. Jim enjoyed fishing, cross country skiing and watching all kinds of sports. In the fall, he spent many weekends at his beloved “Grouse House”, hunting with his friends. He loved sweets and even in his last days he would have ice cream for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He enjoyed traveling with Kathy and was fortunate to visit many countries. In the winter months, they spent their time in their condo in Panama City, and then later in Hilton Head and Venice, Florida. In most recent years, Jim and Kathy would drive to the Blue Water Bridge to eat their lunch. If a freighter happened to go by, Jim would consider it a lucky day.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; daughter, Patricia (Brian) Larson; son, Michael (Lisa) McGill; grandchildren, Brandon Borycki, Carter McGill, Connor McGill, Bailey Borycki and Catherine McGill; and sister, Judy Kensington. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Larry Kensington; and sister-in-law, Beverly Lange.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2025 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Stephen Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.
Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron.
