Paula McCarthy

Paula Jeanne McCarthy, 72 of Lakeport, MI, went to be with the Lord on March 18, 2025. She passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family and friends after a short battle with cancer.

She was born on March 6, 1953 in Port Huron to the Phillip Paul and the late Jeanne Fleckenstein.

Paula attended St. Stephen Catholic School and Port Huron Catholic High School. Paula and Gerry met in Port Huron and were married June 13, 1980 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church. They moved to Lakeport and became parishioners of St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church in 1978 where Paula whole-heartedly dedicated her time to the parish and the school throughout the last 46 years. She was the Director of Religious Education, the Children’s Choir Director, a sacristan and a lector. Paula loved everyone and became “Grandma Paula” to every child she met. She drove the bus for St. Edward’s School, and provided daycare for church and school families. She provided smiles and subs to the Marysville community for 29 years. After retirement, she devoted all her time to St. Edward’s on the Lake parish and school as a teacher’s assistant and lunch aide.

She leaves behind her husband of 44 years, Gerald; her sons, Guy (Lauren) and Michael (Amanda); her daughter, Diana; ten grandchildren, Jordan, Tyler, Nathan, Morgan, Madison, Max, Nolan, Savannah, Michael and Brody; her father, Paul; her brother, John (Susan); brother-in-law, John; and an infinite number of extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Jeanne; and her sister, Ann.

Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.

Tridentine Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2025 in St. Edward on the Lake Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Lee Acervo will officiate.

Rite of Committal will be at 12 noon on Monday March 24, 2025 in Mt. Hope Catholic Cemetery.
