Dick J Wyllie

September 28th, 1937 to June 13th, 2025

Richard J. “Dick” Wyllie died peacefully on Friday, June 13, 2025, with his daughters at his side.

Dick was born September 28, 1937 in Reading, Pennsylvania to the late Neil and Helen Wyllie. The Wyllie family moved to Port Huron in 1944, where they made their home on Huron Avenue.

Dick graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1955 and attended Port Huron Junior College. He received a Bachelor’s in Accountancy and Business from Walsh College in 1993. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1957 to 1960, and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan.

In 1963, Dick met Marilyn Meyers at a meeting of the Adult Catholic Organization. The pair began dating soon after and married on May 22, 1965. They made their home in Port Huron, where they raised three spirited daughters. Dick worked at Mueller Brass, then made his career at SEMCO Energy, where he spent more than 30 years. Dick was notably recognized with an attendance award, having never called in sick throughout his entire career - a record that included the blizzard of 1978, when he began walking to work through the storm until a passing snowmobiler gave him a ride. Dick was a loving husband, and together with Marilyn enjoyed travel, dancing, card club, their role as grandparents and many happy times with family and friends. He enjoyed golfing and played in leagues for most of his life. He founded and organized the first Meyers Ground Bologna Classic, which carries on more than 30 years later. He was a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 521, and a member of the Fourth Degree Assembly 2521. He was a longtime active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was a volunteer at Marydale Retirement Home and St. Vincent’s Food Depot. For 10 years he oversaw the Memorial Day flag placement at Mt. Hope Cemetery. During his later years, Dick enjoyed spending time at the riverwalk, watching the boats pass under the Blue Water Bridge. Dick took his role as Dad seriously, teaching “the girls” to be self-reliant, while also always ensuring they had windshield washer fluid, gas money and postage stamps. He never let a day go by without enjoying chocolate chip cookies.

Dick is survived by daughters, Mary Beth Wyllie (Jason Scholz) of Ann Arbor, Janet Wyllie of Grand Rapids, and Carolyn Wyllie of Kalamazoo; and beloved grandchild, Robin Wyllie-Scholz of Ann Arbor. Survivors also include in-laws, Dorothy Burgess, Loretta Fraley, Carol Meyers and Shirlee Meyers; several cousins; and more than 40 nieces and nephews. He had many cherished friends who he loved to entertain with a good story. His nephew, David Wyllie held a special place in Dick’s life, as did neighbor, Terry Troy.

Dick was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn, shortly after they celebrated 50 years of marriage; siblings, James, Joyce Ingles, Robert, Neil “Skip” and Michael; and many in-laws with which he shared years of fun times and laughter.
