Cindy L. Weston Friend

Cindy Lou Weston Friend, 69, of Fort Gratiot Township, died Tuesday, October 7, 2025 after a ferocious 7-year battle with cancer.

She was born May 9, 1956 in Port Huron to Anna and the late Marvin Weston. She married Daniel L. Friend on October 19, 1979 at St. Joseph Catholic Church. He preceded her in death on January 31, 2002.

Cindy graduated from Central Michigan University and began her teaching career in Brown City where she taught for seven years. After stepping away from the classroom to raise her family, she continued to tutor in math and returned to full-time teaching at McCormick Catholic Academy from 2000-2016. Cindy was a member of the Port Huron Garden Club, enjoyed Town Hall, and community events. She was passionate about her family and friendships and also enjoyed nothing more than being with everyone on her porch and seawall enjoying the lake. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy.

She is survived by her daughters, Rachel Friend (Peter Matranga) and SaraJo Friend (Matthew Alexander); grandchildren, Daniel, Alexandra, and Maria Friend; mother, Anna Weston; sister, Sandra (Stan) Brown; sister-in-law, Judith Friend-Delacy; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Friday, October 10, 2025 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 in St. Mary Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. The Reverend Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate.

Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Port Huron. Pallbearers will be Matthew Alexander, Daniel Friend, Peter Matranga, Mike Delacy, Tom Delacy, Stan Brown, Tyler Brown, and Curtis Brown.

The Friend family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the cancer team at Karmanos Port Huron.
