Ramon Almendarez Jr., 78, of Port Huron, passed away on Friday, January 23, 2026.

He was born October 5, 1947 in Port Huron to the late Ramon and Juanita Almendarez. He married the love of his life, Pamela McDonald on June 22, 1970 in Port Huron. She preceded him in death on March 20, 2025 after 54 years of marriage.

Ramon graduated from Port Huron Catholic School in 1965 where he played football. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Marine Corps where he experienced much war and action throughout his service. His leadership earned him numerous medals and rewards and he retired from the Marine Corps as Master Sergeant, E8 (MSGT/E8). Ramon enjoyed bowling, baseball and also coached little league. Ray had a passion for sharing his stories with others and had a deep love for Jesus.

He is survived by his two daughters, Melissa Naven and Raylynn Almendarez; four brothers, Leonard Almendarez, Tom (Noulsri) Almendarez, Juan (Mary) Almendarez and Lorenzo (Kim) Almendarez; sister, Juanita (Dave) Neis; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his sister, Maria Noe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend Dennis Holland will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the U.S. Marine Corps and the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Burial will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly.
