Carolyn E Corbin
Carolyn Elizabeth (Metzger) Corbin, age 91, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 20, 2026.
She was born on July 10, 1934, in Rochester, New York, to the late Arthur and Lucille Metzger. For the past 56 years, she made her home in Port Huron, Michigan.
Carolyn attended Mercy School for Young Women on a full academic scholarship and was on the dean’s list at Lake Superior State College.
On September 4, 1954, Carolyn married Robert L. Corbin in Rochester, New York. They shared a rich, remarkable life based on family and community. In 1970, Carolyn and her husband founded Corbin Lumber Company, which they proudly operated as a family business for 25 years. She also served the community for two decades as a leader with Weight Watchers in Port Huron.
Carolyn was a devoted member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Port Huron, where she served as a former president of the Parish Council. She was deeply involved in parish life and generously volunteered her time at Bingo and other church fundraising events.
She was also an active member and former president of the League of Catholic Women. Passionate about supporting young families, she volunteered with the Blue Water Pregnancy Center, advocating for and assisting young mothers.
Carolyn enjoyed a wide range of interests and hobbies. She was an avid card player and especially loved bridge and euchre, often participating in friendly competitions. A lifelong sports enthusiast, she followed baseball, football, basketball, and hockey, and particularly enjoyed attending Detroit Tigers games, where she delighted in keeping score. She fondly recalled, as a young girl, sneaking into Rochester Red Wings games with her brothers.
She loved playing the piano and took lessons for much of the last 20 years. She was an accomplished knitter who lovingly made sweaters, caps and blankets for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also donated handmade chemo caps and blankets for cancer patients.
In her eighties, Carolyn wrote a collection of stories about her younger life, creating a lasting treasure for future generations. Since reading was one of her favorite pastimes, she participated in a book club and enjoyed reading to others.
Carolyn was known as a wonderful friend and a thoughtful listener. She greatly enjoyed living at Porthaven Manor for the past six years, where she formed many close friendships and shared many happy moments.
Her greatest joy was time spent with her grandchildren. She delighted in playing games with them and lovingly passed on traditions such as playing euchre, knitting, and baking cookies. Many cherished memories were made by singing songs and sharing laughter.
She is survived by her children, Elizabeth (Charles) Murphy, Robert (Annika) Corbin, Patrick Foley (Sue), Mary (Michael) Kinsella, Martha (Kenneth) Judge, Andrew Corbin (Ming-Li Chai), and Sarah Corbin (Paul Steuer); 18 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy; her brother, Fred (Lorraine) Metzger; her sisters-in-law, Lois Metzger and Margaret Corbin; and by the large, loving family that was the center of her life. Carolyn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert L. Corbin; her daughters, Barbara Anne and Bonnie Marie; and her brothers, Richard, Gerard, and Paul Metzger.
