Michael Stephen Bliss, 85, of Port Huron, passed away on Monday, May 4, 2026.

He was born October 1, 1940 in Port Huron to the late Janice (O’Rourke) and Gordon Bliss.

Michael graduated from St. Stephen High School in 1958 and joined the U.S. Navy three months later. After boot camp and additional training, he served as a Communications Technician aboard the USS Georgetown (AGTR2), operating primarily in the Caribbean off the coast of Cuba and later ashore at the U.S. Naval Station Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

After completing this enlistment, Mike returned home and was on the Port Huron Fire Department for two years before re-entering the Navy in 1965. He served in the finest Navy in the world for over 23 years and was promoted to Chief Petty Officer in August 1978. During his career, he served at duty stations both in the continental U.S. and overseas in Italy, Japan and the Philippines. Chief Bliss retired from the Navy in May 1985 and returned to live in Port Huron the following year.

Mike attended St. Clair County Community College and earned associate degrees in Liberal Arts and Science. He was an active member in his church and joined the Knights of Columbus in 1992. While serving as Grand Knight, his council 521 celebrated the 100th anniversary of its founding. He became a Life Member of the Knights in 2017.

In 1993, Mike became a volunteer driver for the Council on Aging and enjoyed transporting seniors, making hundreds of new friends in the process. He retired this pastime in 2017.

The most significant event of all for Mike was finding sobriety and a new life that began in June 1974 when he joined A.A. “Thank you, Jesus”.

Mike leaves a sister, Mary Lynn (“Pete”) Tahaney; close friend, Aurora Fiesta; niece, Kathleen (Mike) Glenn; nephew, Patrick (Michelle) Tahaney; and many loving cousins, grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
