Thomas A Haggerty
Thomas Anthony Haggerty, 85, of Fort Gratiot, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 28, 2026 surrounded by family.
He was born October 24, 1940 in Scranton, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Catherine (McGuire) Haggerty, the second born of five, and the only son. He married the love of his life, Margaret Bowen in 1963. She preceded him in death on September 5, 2016.
Tom was raised in Detroit and later made his home in Fort Gratiot, where he and Margaret lovingly raised their family. An avid golfer, he enjoyed spending time at Marysville Golf Course; and was Norte Dame’s most devoted fan. He also loved meeting up with his high school friends monthly. Tom was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church and was active in the choir. Known for his compassionate nature, Tom had a remarkable ability to meet people where they were, always listening with sincerity and understanding. He served as a mentor to many, fierce defender of the disenfranchised and was willing to lend an ear to anyone who needed consoling. He will be greatly missed by his faith community and numerous friends. Tom honorably served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by five children, Robert (Rhonda) Haggerty, Thomas (Jody) Haggerty Jr., Anne Pashenee, Kathleen (Patrick) Haggerty and John (Erica) Haggerty; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Norris-Obial; 14 nieces and nephews; as well as many other extended family members and spouses who were blessed with his guidance throughout the years. He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. A time of sharing will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2026 in Holy Trinity Parish St. Joseph Catholic Church with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. The Reverend Bradley Forintos will officiate.
