Alan J Skinner

Alan James Skinner, 79, of Port Huron, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 30, 2026.

He was born October 30, 1946 in Mt. Clemens to the late Mayland and Marion Skinner. He married Kathryn Koch on November 18, 1972 in Port Huron.

Alan was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame in 1968. He began his career working alongside his father in the family business at Skinner Buick and Skinner Chevrolet. Alan then worked at a dealership in Saline, Michigan before opening Alan Skinner Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge in Richmond, Michigan in 1974.

Throughout the years, Alan also worked for Southeastern Michigan Gas Company, an auto dealership in Aurora, Colorado, and First Interstate Bank with positions in Aurora, Colorado; Portland, Oregon; and Renton, Washington. He taught at St. Mary’s Catholic School in St. Clair and Port Huron High School. Alan also managed Staples in Port Huron and also CVS. Even after retiring several times, his strong work ethic led him to work at Hobby Lobby, Menards and Lowes. Alan loved his cars and took great pride in caring for his yard and keeping it beautifully maintained. He passed away doing something he truly loved.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy; children, Laural (Mark) Wagley, Sarah Skinner and Benjamin Skinner; grandchildren, Gabrielle Schwartz (Mitchell Molesworth), Isabelle (Benjamin) Jorde, Dylan Schwartz (Fiancée, Megan DeClair), Hayden Wagley and Holden Wagley; sisters, Vyrene Wilson-Bodeies and Kimberly Skinner-Ortman; several cousins, and numerous business friends and Facebook followers; and many neighbors, including Dennis and Yvonne Dewitt.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. Deacon Dennis Crimmins will officiate.

Inurnment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, Port Huron at a later date.
