JoAnn Wine

JoAnn Wine, 89, a lifelong resident of Port Huron, died Thursday, August 27, 2026.

She was born September 18, 1936 in Port Huron to the late George and Thelma Hisscock. She married the love of her life, Raymond L. Wine on December 21, 1957 in the All Faiths Chapel at First Congregational Church. He preceded her in death on June 28, 2011 after 53 years of marriage and friendship.

JoAnn graduated from Port Huron High School and attended Central Michigan University. She worked for several years at Michigan Bell Telephone, working her way up to manager. When the last of her children began school, JoAnn started her career in real estate. Beginning with Cooper Realty and Town & Country, she eventually started (along with four others) one of the first woman-owned real-estate firms in St. Clair County, Real Estate Counselors. JoAnn and her son, Jeff started JoAnn Wine and Associates in 1989. A natural-born listener, she was successful in her work because she loved to hear people’s stories, learn about them, and then help them reach their real-estate goals. JoAnn finally retired in August of 2025 when she was 88 years old.

JoAnn was a longtime member of First Congregational Church in Port Huron, where she taught at the Mayflower Nursery School.

She is survived by her son, Jeff (Debra) Wine; daughter, Andrea Wine Cansfield; grandchildren, Nathaniel (Lauren) Wine, Avery Wine (fiancé Jared Chapman), Patrick (Laura) Cansfield, Andrew Cansfield and Kellen Cansfield (fiancé Tucker McGinnis); great grandchildren, Siena, Daniel, Abigail, Gemma and Palmer; special nieces, Diane Slingerland and Dondra Slingerland; and great niece, Deidre Slingerland. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Susan Wine; sister, Donna Faye Slingerland; and step-father, who she was raised by, Francis “Frank” Alberts.

Visitation will be 2-5 & 6-8 p.m. on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2026 in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Reverend Phil Whetstone will officiate.

Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jeff and Nathaniel Wine, Mike, Patrick and Andrew Cansfield, and Tucker McGinnis.

Memorial contributions may be made to the YMCA of the Blue Water Area, McLaren Hospice, or the Port Huron Firefighters Association.
