George C Anter
June 7th, 1932 to August 15th, 2012
George C. Anter, 80, entered the fullness of God’s grace, welcomed into heaven by God on Wednesday, August 15, on the Feast of the Assumption. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn (Bisby), his brother John (Judy), a loving daughter Elaine her husband Andrew (MacFarland) and their daughter, George’s grandchild, Sarah. George also is survived by his adoring son, Doug and his wife, Jacquie (Ward), and George’s spirit will live on in Jacquie and Doug’s yet-to-be born child, George’s second grandchild, due on August 26. He was preceded in death by his loving first wife, Rosemarie Anne (Sterling) in 1996, his father (John, 1986), his mother (Lillian 1966) and two brothers (Art, 2011 and Dave 2005). Additionally, George is survived by eight step-children (Margot Bennett, Michelle Bennett, Matthew Bennett, Melisa Bennett, Joseph Bennett, Jack Bennett, Jim Bennett and Jeanne Augsberger) and 16 step-grandchildren.
George was most well-known in the community for owning Emery’s Lanes and Lounge in Port Huron. He was an avid golfer and loved to bowl, entertain at his home, play cards and fully enjoy his family and friends. Every Saturday in the fall, he could be found entertaining friends while watching U of M playing football. Often, he’d barge into the florist and shout: “See this vase? Fill it up for my wife!” He made friends everywhere he went.
Prior to Emery’s, George worked as a tool-and-die machinist for Enterprise Machine Products and Mueller Brass. Before that, he was a TV antennae installer. Throughout his career and into retirement, George had an avid following as one of the area’s best-known bartenders. George served honorably in the U.S. Army from November 13, 1952 to November 12, 1954 and was a true patriot.
Mass of Resurrection will be 10am Saturday in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. The Rev. Zbigniew Zomerfeld will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery with a luncheon immediately following at George and Marilyn’s home. Military graveside services will be conducted under auspices of the St. Clair County Allied Veterans Council.
Visiting hours are 2-9pm Friday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9:30am Saturday at the church. A rosary will be recited at 7pm Friday evening.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association in George’s name.
