Josephine "Jo" Guenther Port Huron - Josephine "Jo" Guenther, 98, died Friday, October 28, 2005 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab. She was born October 26, 1907 in Port Huron and is a lifelong area resident.. She married Clayton F. Guenther on June 26, 1937 in St. Stephen Church. He died July 6, 1980. Jo was a 1927 graduate of Port Huron High School. She was a member of St. Joseph and St. Stephen parishes. She was active in the Times Herald Ladies Auxiliary. Jo was an avid swimmer until 1992. She loved to play bingo, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, gardening, playing the organ, crafts and going to watch baseball games. She loved animals, especially cats. She also loved chocolate. She once lived in a tent in Lighthouse Park for 6 months after WWII. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Guenther of Evanston, IL, Theresa Burgos of Port Huron and Christine (John) Corby of Ruby; 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren; niece, Yvonne (Marvin) Frederick and their two children all of Livonia, MI. She is preceded in death by her infant children Cartherine and Fredrick and a great grandson, Andrew. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Simeon Iber will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 Tuesday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and from 9:30 a.m. until the service time Wednesday at church. A rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials in Jo's memory may be made to the St. Clair County Humane Society.
