Genevieve Burke
April 19th, 1914 to November 3rd, 2005
Fort Gratiot- Genevieve Elizabeth Burke, age 91, entered heaven to be with her Lord on Thursday, November 3, 2005. She was born on April 19, 1914 in Bad Axe, Michigan, the third of seven children to the late Henry and Mary Western. She attended Port Huron Schools graduating in 1932. After twenty eight years of secretarial work in the employment division for the State of Michigan, she retired in 1976. In the spring of 1941 Genevieve was married to George H. Maurer. He preceded her in death in 1946. Years later she married Frank A. Burke he also preceded her in death in 1973. She was an active and life long member of First Congregational Church. Her service and beautiful smile will be missed. Genevieve's greatest joy in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren. Another passion was her card games. She was an excellent bridge player having played for sixty years making many dear, life long friends. She also enjoyed her Las Vegas trips and her bingo games. She will be sadly missed by her son's, Patrick G. (Gloria) Maurer of Ypsilanti and Edward C. (Joann) Burke of Lakeport; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her sisters Alice L. Klettner of California; Evelyn E. Steinhaus of Port Huron and MaeBelle Studer of Florida. She will also be sadly missed by many nieces, nephews and dear friends at the Blue Water Lodge. She was preceded in death by two brothers Raymond M. and Edward P. Western. Funeral services are 10 a.m. Monday in the Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. The Rev. Frederick J. Klettner, pastor of St. Clare of Assisi Parish, Farmington Hills and the Rev Reed C. Benedict, pastor of First Congregational Church will officate. Burial will be in Burtchville Township Cemetery. Visitation is 1-9 p.m. Sunday. Memorial tributes may be given to First Congregational Church.
