Adiel 'Skip' Minnie

Adiel Edward " Skip" Minnie Port Huron - Adiel Edward "Skip" Minnie, 83, died Wednesday, November 16, 2005 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born the youngest of seven, December 2, 1921 in Port Huron, where he lived most of his life. He married Mary F. Borowski on February 6, 1943 and together they raised 5 children. Skip graduated with honors from St. Stephens High School in 1940, where he lettered in baseball, basketball and football. He was a pitcher for the Pittsburgh Pirates farm team before going in the Navy during WWII. While there he played for the U.S. Navy team. After the war, he signed on with the St. Louis Browns. Upon returning home, he played on the Industrial Baseball League where the PH Lumber Team won the State National Championship. He refereed/umpired many years for the semi-pro basketball teams in Detroit and local teams. He was a huge fan of the original Flags team and an avid golfer. His talents did not end with sports. He loved surrounding himself with people and made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed boating, traveling in his motor home and dancing to his favorite polka bands. Skip retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 32 years dedicated service. Skip then worked at Northgate Ford in car sales where he earned many accolades. He is survived by Mary, his wife of 62 years; his children, Gary (Cindy) Minnie, Janice (Chris) Holsbeke, Randall (Barbara) Minnie, Frederick Minnie and Gayle (Doug) Richards; grandchildren, Julie (Mark) Harju, Beth Ann (Chris) Benedict, James A. Karl, Lisa (Bill) Hartman, Brandy (Thomas) Keech, Nicholas (Poetry) Minnie, Jason (Shawna) Ballor, Brette Minnie, Steven and Nolan Richards; 13 great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed, as he was our strength. Memorial Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at St. Stephen Catholic Church. The Rev. Brian K Cokonougher, pastor will officiate. Visiting hours are 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Stephen Church or Blue Water Hospice.
