Bernadette Walker

Bernadette M. Walker, R.N. Marysville - Bernadette M. Walker, 96, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 in Marwood Nursing and Rehab . She was born July 17, 1909 in Detroit. She married John J. Walker on October 27, 1931. He died February 28, 1982. Bernadette, a registered nurse, graduated from St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Training School for Nurses in 1931 in Detroit. She was instrumental in forming a group of mothers with children of Downs Syndrome. She was dedicated to the equality of life for her Downs Syndrome daughter Denise. When her husband died, she moved from Pearl Beach to Marysville. She lived by the water so she could watch all the freighters. Bernadette is survived by two daughters, Nancy (Chuck) Holman and Denise Walker; two granddaughters, Shelley (Doug) Wuennenberg of O'Fallon, MO and Sue Byrnes of St. Peters, MO; one grandson, Keith (Pat) Byrnes of St. Peters, MO; one great granddaughter, two great grandsons and two great-great grandsons, all of MO; several nieces and nephews. Following her wishes, there will be no visiting or services held. Cremation has taken place. Burial of her ashes will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Mt. Clemens, MI.
