Evelyn Wellman Steinhaus Finally! Free at last! Evelyn Wellman Steinhaus triumphantly entered Heaven's Gates on January 15, 2006 and met her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Evelyn began her journey on this earth in Bad Axe, MI. on November 19, 1920, the sixth of seven children of C. Harry and Mary Western. The Western family moved to Port Huron in the late twenties where she attended Port Huron Areas schools. As a beautiful young woman, she felt adventuresome and took the train to California to visit her brother Ed to seek her fame and fortune, but became homesick and returned to Port Huron. Evelyn was involved in many activities including being a Goodwill Ambassador for the Blue Water Festival, welcoming dignitaries to the area. In 1946 she married Robert J. Wellman. They had one daughter, Sharon Kay. Evelyn retired from St. Clair County Government Offices where she worked in the Sheriff's Dept. and the Friend of the Court office. Soon after retirement, Evelyn met and married Andrew Steinhaus. They enjoyed golf and spending winter months in Florida. She also loved going to Lakeside Beach to cook breakfast by the water. Evelyn was an accomplished artist enjoying oil and china painting and home decorating. She loved giving her paintings to family and friends for them to enjoy. She was always available to decorate someone's new home - it always looked gorgeous after she "helped". Evelyn especially enjoyed playing bridge and will miss her dear lady friends of the Wednesday bridge club. Leaving behind to mourn are her daughter, Sharon Kay and husband Carl Schoenberg of Clyde Twp.; three grandchildren, C. Bradley and wife Kristine Schoenberg, Fort Gratiot, Stacie-marie and husband Matt Rayman of Otsego, Mi. and Jason and wife Sara Schoenberg, Port Huron; three beloved great grandchildren, Tyler James and Mattison Marie Rayman of Otsego and Mallory Evelyn Rose Schoenberg of Port Huron and special friends Joleen and Terrance Martin of New Baltimore and their daughters Emily and Grace. Also, Evelyn leaves two sisters, Alice L. Klettner of California and Maebelle Studer of Florida and many special nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Steinhaus, two brothers, Edward P. Western and his wife Virginia and Ray M. Western and his wife Vera and one sister, Genevieve E. Burke and also the father of her daughter, Dr. Robert J. Wellman. Visiting will be held at Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2 to 8 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Evelyn's nephew, Rev Frederick J. Klettner and Cornerstone Pastor Peter Foxwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be C. Bradley Schoenberg, Jason Schoenberg, Matt Rayman, Edward Burke, Patrick Maurer and Clay Western. Memorial considerations may be made to Cornerstone Church, Clyde, Mi. or the American Lung Association. "I've set eternity in your heart. The things you see now are only temporary; it's the things you can't see that will last forever. No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has ever conceived all of the awesome and unbelievable things I've prepared for those who love me.
