Elizabeth J. "Betty" Kearns, 84, of Port Huron, died Wednesday, September 13, 2006 in her home after a brief illness. Betty was born February 10, 1922 in Port Huron and was a lifelong resident. She married Edward W. "Ted" Kearns, Sr. September 4, 1943 in Port Huron. She was a 1940 graduate of St. Stephen High School. Betty, together with her husband Ted, founded Kearns Agency where she was involved until her declining health curtailed her activities. Betty was a founding member of St. Mary Church, a member of Port Huron Golf Club, B.P.O.E. #343, L.O.O.M. #158 and the American Legion Dance Club. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; her family was her life. Betty is survived by her husband, Ted; Daughter, Carolyn (Bill) Bonacci of Port Huron; Sons, Dennis (Ceci) of Port Huron, Larry (Carla) of Jensen Beach, FL, Steve and Ted (Linda) Kearns, Jr., both of Port Huron; Daughter, Maureen (Sandy) MacCallum of Fort Gratiot; Sons, Mark (Kelli) of Marysville and Tim (Jeanette) Kearns of Port Huron and Daughter Jackie (Ron) Mackensen of Port Huron; her grandchildren, Debbie (Mike) Reynolds, Joseph Bonacci, Denise (Mark) Richard, Christine (Jayson) Grossman, Cheryl (Kevin) Stein, Bob (Annmarie) Kearns, Heather (Joe) Shimmel, Tiffany Kearns, Rachel (Eric) Witter, Danielle (Don) Truscott, Matthew Kearns, Ashley, Cassie and Colleen MacCallum, Eric and Geofrey Kearns, Tara Cuthbertson, Emily Kearns and Ronnie and Tommy Mackensen, 12 great grandchildren; her brother, William (Catherine) Ricketts of Port Huron; Sisters, Ann Marie (Tom) Rowe of Auburn Hills, Pat (Norm) Sauve of Sarnia and Rosemary Lentz of Florida; sister-in-law, Shirley Kearns of Port Huron and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Theresa Kearns and a grandson, Jeremy Mackensen. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Mary Church. The Rev. Simeon T. Iber, Pastor will preside. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Bonacci, Bob, Matt, Eric and Geof Kearns and Ronnie Mackensen. Visiting hours are 2 until 9 p.m. Friday in Karrer-Simpson Funeral Home and 9 a.m. Saturday at the church. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday. Memorials in Betty's memory may be made to Blue Water Hospice, Breast Cancer Awareness or the charity of the donor's choice.
